FAQ — Open Water Course in Komodo
2 days or 3 days — which one should I choose?
Choose the 2-day Fast Track if your time is limited and you are comfortable with an intensive schedule. Choose the 3-day format if you want 2 additional Adventure Dives after your fourth Open Water course dive. Both formats lead to the same PADI Open Water Diver certification after successful completion. The 2 Adventure Dives can be credited towards the 5 Adventure Dives required for PADI Advanced Open Water, but they do not complete the full Advanced certification.
I've never dived before. Is Komodo too hard for beginners?
No. Komodo has both protected training areas and current-exposed dive sites. Your instructor selects suitable sites and timing according to tides, daily conditions and student comfort; advanced current sites are not used for Open Water training.
Where does the pool training happen?
At our own training pool at the resort — Dragon Dive is the only dive resort in Labuan Bajo with one. It provides a calm, clear and private setting before your ocean dives; no course pool sessions take place in the harbour.
How deep will I dive?
The PADI Open Water Diver certification allows you to dive to a maximum depth of 18 m with a buddy, within the limits of your training and experience. During the course, depth increases gradually across 4 ocean dives. Divers aged 10–11 are limited to 12 m.
How does the eLearning work?
PADI Open Water eLearning is included in the price, and we send access after your booking is confirmed. Allow approximately 8–12 hours to complete it at your own pace on a phone or laptop before arrival, so your time in Komodo can focus on pool and ocean training.
What exactly is included in the price?
The course price includes PADI Open Water eLearning, pool training, 4 ocean course dives, full SCUBAPRO equipment, Komodo National Park fees, breakfast at Le Resto, lunch on board, instruction and certification processing. There are no additional course or certification fees on site. Accommodation, medical clearance if required, and other restaurant meals are not included.
My kids want to learn too. From what age?
From age 10. Divers under 15 earn the Junior Open Water Diver certification with age-specific depth and buddy limits. At 15, they can order a replacement card without the “Junior” designation; no course needs to be repeated.
How do I book?
