How to Choose Your Dive Center in Komodo
Many operators in Labuan Bajo offer diving in Komodo National Park, and in strong currents the choice matters. Use this checklist to compare any dive center on facts you can verify before you book.

The 3-Question Check
In a rush? Ask any dive center these three questions. Clear answers are a good sign.
1. Who operates the boat?
An operator that runs its own boats controls engine maintenance, crew training and the emergency oxygen on board. Ask for the name of tomorrow's boat.
2. How many divers per guide?
Komodo currents are real, and one guide can only watch so many divers. Our standard is 4 divers per guide, 5 maximum, and fewer for courses or less experienced divers.
3. What does the price include?
Full equipment? A dive computer? The Komodo National Park fee? Compare the full price, not the headline one. At Dragon Dive Komodo, park fees are included on every daily trip and recreational course.
Why the Choice Matters in Komodo
Komodo National Park is a high-current, world-class marine park. You need a team that knows its conditions and plans every dive around them.
Who is responsible on the water?
Some storefronts in Labuan Bajo are booking agents that place divers on another operator's boat. That can work, but ask who operates the boat, who guides your group and who is responsible if plans change at sea.
At Dragon Dive Komodo, we operate our own boats, fill our own tanks and work with our own permanent team, so one company is accountable from the briefing to the last dive.
Worth a second question if…
- No fixed base: there is no office, gear room or dive center you can visit.
- No named boat: nobody can tell you which boat you will be on tomorrow.
- Mixed levels: new Open Water divers and experienced divers are put in one group to fill a boat.
- Partial price: the price leaves out park fees, equipment or a dive computer.

The fleet
Our daily dive boats Shiryu and Smaug carry a maximum of 15 divers each, the speedboat Spyro takes up to 6, and Shenron is our boutique liveaboard. We own and maintain all four.
The air
We fill our own tanks with four electric Bauer compressors and Securus filtration, and blend our own Nitrox (Enriched Air) for certified divers who want longer no-decompression times.
The pool
A dedicated training pool on site: skills for PADI courses and refreshers are practised in calm water before the ocean, not in a choppy current.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do I need advanced certification to dive in Komodo?
Not necessarily, but it helps. Komodo is challenging. If you are Open Water certified, we make sure you dive on sites suited to your level with close supervision. We recommend the Advanced Open Water course here to build experience with drift and depth.
Are dive computers included?
Yes on all our PADI courses: every student dives with a computer included. For fun dives, computers are available with our rental equipment, so mention it when you book. Diving on your guide's computer is not a safe practice, and we don't allow it.
Is Nitrox free at Dragon Dive Komodo?
It depends on your trip. For day trips of 1–2 days, Nitrox is 150,000 IDR per day. On dive packages of 3 days or more, Nitrox is free, subject to availability. On our Shenron liveaboard, Nitrox is included for certified divers.
Is the Komodo National Park fee included in the price?
Yes for all our daily dive trips and recreational courses. On the Shenron liveaboard, park fees are paid on arrival in Labuan Bajo at the official park rate.
What happens if the weather is bad?
Safety first. Because we operate our own boats, we make the call. If conditions are unsafe, we reroute to protected sites or reschedule.
Can I check your equipment before booking?
Absolutely. Come visit our resort in Labuan Bajo. We are proud of our gear room, our compressor room and our training pool. A transparent center has nothing to hide.
