The surface interval

Two dives, with a beach meal between them

The standard Spyro trip does not use the boat transfer as dead time between dives. The team selects a beach that fits the route, tide and conditions, and serves the meal there during the required surface interval.

The beach is intentionally not fixed in advance. This allows the route to follow the two dive sites selected for that day rather than forcing every private trip through the same stop.

What certification do I need to dive from Spyro?

The minimum certification for Spyro diving trips is Advanced Open Water. This requirement applies to the half-day diving formats and the private charter.

Spyro carries a maximum of six divers and always has two guides onboard. This gives a 3:1 diver-to-guide ratio at full capacity, and the ratio never exceeds 4:1.

Are night dives available on Spyro?

Yes. Spyro also operates night dives on request for certified divers. Contact the team to confirm available dates, sites and timing for your stay.

Can children or snorkelers join a Spyro private trip?

Yes, on two formats. Children and snorkelers who are confident swimmers can join a private Spyro charter, and non-diving guests can also join the boat transfer on the Rinca dragon-walk format. Contact the team so we can plan the right setup for your group.

What is the weather and cancellation policy for Spyro?

Safety first. If conditions are unsafe, we reroute to protected dive sites or reschedule the trip for another day. Dragon Dive Komodo owns Spyro — we never rent the boat — so there is no commercial pressure to go out in poor conditions.

Are there toilets or showers onboard Spyro?

No. Spyro is a fast open speedboat built for short half-day trips, so there are no toilets or showers onboard. Travel times are short, and the beach surface interval provides a comfortable break between the two dives.

How is Spyro different from a classic Komodo day trip?

Spyro is a private half-day speedboat format with two dives, a maximum of six divers, two guides onboard and departure options at 09:00, 11:00 or no later than 13:30. A classic day boat follows a fixed early departure and a longer shared full-day programme.
