GENERAL FAQ - Komodo with Dragon DIve
The easiest way to access the Komodo Islands is by flying into Labuan Bajo LBJ on the island of Flores, and taking a boat tour from the city. Because of flight schedules, though, you MUST arrive a day before your tour and stay a night in Labuan Bajo.
In September 2022 direct international flight will be available from Singapore.
Komodo National Park is located in the center of the Indonesian archipelago, ( 1h by flight from Bali) between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores. It is composed of three major islands (Rinca, Komodo, and Padar) and numerous smaller ones, all of them of volcanic origin. This national park constitutes the “shatter belt” within the Wallacea Biogeographical Region, between the Australian and Sunda ecosystems.
The average air temperature around Labuan Bajo is around 35°C even through the ‘rainy season. The dry season runs from March to November, which is the best time for clear skies but wavy seas in July and August, with a water temperature around 26-28°C .. During this time, you can dive only in Central and North of Komodo National Park.
The patches of rain start around the end of November with an hour or so of rain during the day or night and some cloud cover. The ‘rainy reason’ begins in December through April. Sea conditions do not let us dive the North of Komodo, so we are focusing and Diving only in South and Central Komodo.
Yes. The difference is quite huge for a long stay. We are offering a massive reduction for direct bookings on dives and hotels. As we are a dive resort, our main revenue is on diving/snorkeling trips so we are focusing on attracting as much as we can scuba divers.
Electricity is 220v and plugs are 2 x small round pins. In our hotel, we provide extension terminals and USB charger plugs, and most other accommodation will be able to provide adaptors to borrow if you need them.
For most nationalities, yes and you can get this on arrival in Indonesia. There are certain countries whose citizens are granted the 30-day visa-free facility on arrival: this is a non-extendable visa. For other countries (including EU countries, USA and Australia) you can pay $35 on arrival (cash only) for visa on arrival – this is extendable one time only for an additional 30 days at the local immigration office.
Citizens of countries not eligible for the visa on arrival or visa free lists will be required to apply for a visa before entering Indonesia.
The various visa requirements for countries does change so it is best to contact your local Indonesian embassy.
It is possible to get a 60-day visa in an Indonesian Embassy before you arrive, please check directly with the Indonesian Embassy.
The Local currency is the Indonesian Rupiah (IDR or Rp). The exchange rates are following the daily rates of our bank you can find here.
You can pay in IDR, EURO or USD.

MONDAY TO SATURDAY – PER DAY IDR 275,000
The standard Monday to Saturday entry price to dive in Komodo National Park is as follows:
100,000 IDR in Local Government Tourism Tax + 150,000IDR per person for National Park harbor clearance + 25,000 add on for scuba diving
The standard Sunday and Public Holiday entry price to dive in Komodo National Park is as follows:
100,000 IDR in Local Government Tourism Tax + 225,000IDR per person for National Park harbor clearance + 25,000 add on for scuba diving
RINCA, KOMODO, PADAR TREKKING FEES WILL HAVE ALSO ENTRANCE FEES
For certified Diver, a diving day trip will cost 2.400.000 IDR for the divers staying with us. Special offers, including Hotel and dives, are also available HERE
For beginners, a PADI open water course will cost around 7.300.000 IDR, and an advanced open water course will be at 6.600.000 IDR.
We put a maximum of four / five divers in one group with one of our certified dive guides / Instructors.
We always make diving groups depending on skill level, whenever possible we are not mixing experienced and beginners.
Yes. As a PADI 5*IDC, we must have all our guides and instructors up to date with their training and certification. Concerning the Freelance, it’s not our philosophy to use freelancers as we want guests to have a reliable, safe, and pleasant experience with Dragon Dive meaning you must have and found all the time the same dive guide. We are using only people from Labuan Bajo to support the local community.
Dragon Dive built and owned its 2 diving boats. We are proud to make them as economical and practical as possible to let our customers enjoy the Komodo National Park. We are following safety standards on all our boats. We focused on wooden boats to avoid the use of speed boats we are using more than 4x petrol than our “slow boats”. The difference is also the comfort provided by slow boats. Sofa, tea, coffee, and lounger are available and fresh water too… not possible on a bumpy speed boat.
This is a tricky question. You can’t select your dive sites. Komodo is following tides, moon, currents, season, and level of divers. Believe us, we are always planning what we believe to be the best and safest dive sites for your diving days.
Of course, if you are booked for Manta Package we will always (except force Majeure) bring you to meet the Manta Rays.
We can provide Nitrox; the price is only 200.000 /fill for three tanks.
