How to prepare for your PADI IDC
This is the pathway we set every DDK candidate, from booking to the Instructor Examination:
- Complete your PADI IDC eLearning — the official PADI foundation, done at your own pace at home.
- Sit the diagnostic theory exam in the portal to find out where you actually stand across the five subjects.
- Target your weak areas with the matching interactive theory modules — worked calculations, memory techniques, reveal-answer exercises.
- Work through the topic quizzes until your scores sit consistently above the 75% pass mark.
- Sit mock exam series A to E under exam conditions — timed, and open-manual only where the IE allows it.
- Arrive for the 3-day Pre-IDC Preparation with your remaining questions ready for your Course Director.
What the portal does not replace
A platform cannot watch you brief a skill. The portal handles theory before you arrive — so your days in Komodo go into the things that can only happen here.

When do I get access to the Candidate Portal?
The day you book your IDC with Dragon Dive Komodo. Most candidates start studying from home weeks or months before travelling.
Is the portal included in the IDC price?
Yes. It's included in every DDK IDC and Divemaster programme. Not an add-on, no extra fee.
Do I need to be in Labuan Bajo to use it?
No. The portal runs in your browser and works from anywhere. It's designed to be used at home first, then alongside your training once you arrive.
What if my dive theory is weak?
That's exactly who it was built for. Start with the diagnostic exam, work through the modules for your weakest subjects, and whatever is still unclear gets resolved in person during the 3-day Pre-IDC Preparation included in your course.
How many practice exams are there?
Five complete mock theory exam series (A to E) plus mock standards exams, all under exam conditions — alongside over 900 practice questions in topic quizzes with unlimited attempts and answer explanations.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes. The modules are built mobile-first and work on phones, tablets and laptops — no app to install.
Does the portal replace PADI eLearning or my crew-pak?
No. You still complete the official PADI IDC eLearning and own your PADI materials. The portal organises, explains and tests that material — it doesn't substitute for it.
Can I get portal access without joining the DDK IDC?
The portal is currently included with our IDC and Divemaster programmes. Preparing for an IDC elsewhere? Message us on WhatsApp — we're considering opening it as a standalone preparation course.
