From Capable Diver to Prepared Buddy

Rescue training changes your focus from managing only your own dive to recognising and responding to problems around you.

The PADI Rescue Diver course combines knowledge development, practical rescue exercises and open-water scenarios. You learn to identify diver stress, assist tired or panicked divers, search for missing divers, respond to unresponsive divers and organise an emergency response.

Rescue Diver is an important step toward PADI Divemaster, but it is equally valuable for recreational divers who want stronger awareness, judgement and buddy-assistance skills.

Skills You Will Practise

Exercises progress from prevention and self-rescue to coordinated responses and final scenarios.

Stress recognition

Identify signs of trouble early and choose an appropriate response before a situation escalates.

Self-rescue

Review techniques that help you manage your own stress, equipment and position in the water.

Tired and panicked divers

Practise approaches, assists, tows and techniques for helping at the surface.

Missing-diver response

Plan and perform search procedures while coordinating available people and resources.

Unresponsive diver

Practise surfacing, rescue breathing, exits and continued care in realistic scenarios.

Emergency management

Prepare an emergency assistance plan and coordinate first aid, oxygen and evacuation resources.

Your 3-Day Rescue Course

Complete the assigned Rescue Diver eLearning before arrival. The instructor may adapt the order to conditions and student progress.

Three progressive practical days

The Rescue + EFR package incorporates the required Primary and Secondary Care training into the course plan.

BeforeKnowledge development. Complete PADI Rescue Diver eLearning and submit certification, first-aid and medical documentation.
Day 1EFR if required + pool skills. Rescue-only students begin practical rescue exercises; bundle students also complete the scheduled hands-on EFR Primary and Secondary Care components.
Day 2Shore-based rescue exercises. Practise approaches, assists, tows, exits, search procedures and responses to unresponsive divers.
Day 3Open-water scenarios. Combine prevention, assessment, rescue skills and emergency management in scenario-based training.

PADI certification is performance-based. Required skills are not shortened to fit the schedule, and additional training may be needed if a student requires more time.

FAQ — PADI Rescue Diver in Komodo

What are the prerequisites for PADI Rescue Diver?

How long is the Rescue Diver course at Dragon Dive Komodo?

The scheduled practical program runs for 3 days after the assigned eLearning. PADI training is performance-based, so the order may change and additional training may be needed if a student requires more time.

What is the difference between Rescue only and Rescue + EFR?

Rescue only is for divers whose qualifying CPR and first-aid training is current within 24 months. Rescue + EFR also includes EFR Primary Care (CPR), Secondary Care (First Aid), hands-on practice and the associated course processing.

What skills will I practise?

You will practise self-rescue, stress recognition, assistance for tired and panicked divers, missing-diver procedures, responses to unresponsive divers, exits, emergency oxygen use, emergency planning and realistic open-water rescue scenarios.

What's included in the Rescue course price?

The selected package includes PADI Rescue eLearning, pool, shore and open-water training, full scuba equipment, boat and crew, Komodo National Park fees for scheduled course dives, lunch on the ocean day, instruction and certification processing. The bundle also includes EFR Primary and Secondary Care.

Are Komodo National Park fees included?

Yes. Park fees for the scheduled Rescue course dives are included in both published package prices. Dragon Dive organises the required registration before departure.

Do I need a refresher before Rescue Diver?

It depends on your recent diving and comfort. Rescue training assumes reliable core skills and buoyancy, so contact the team if you are rusty. They may recommend a pool refresher or warm-up dive before the course.

Is Rescue Diver required for Divemaster?

Yes. A PADI Rescue Diver certification or qualifying equivalent is part of the Divemaster prerequisites, together with current CPR and first-aid training and the other PADI entry requirements.
