Castle Rock Dive Site — Komodo National Park
Welcome to the "Fish Soup" of Komodo. Castle Rock is a submerged pinnacle that offers some of the most intense big-fish action in the park. Without a rock breaking the surface, the current whips around this site, attracting massive schools of predators.
A Submerged Fortress 🏰
Unlike Crystal Rock, Castle Rock doesn't break the surface. The top of the pinnacle sits at about 5-7 meters. This topography creates a unique flow of water that attracts massive schools of fusiliers, bannerfish, and jacks—which in turn attract the sharks. It is widely considered one of the best shark dives in Indonesia.

Typical Dive Plan 🧭
The plan is dictated by the current direction. Here is the standard "Shotgun Entry" profile:
We drop up-current in the blue. Empty your BCD and fin down fast to reach the reef at 15-20m.
We find a rocky spot at 20-25m near the "split" of the current. Hook in, inflate slightly, and watch the show.
This is where the magic happens: walls of Jacks, hunting Trevally, and sharks cruising right in front of you.
Unhook and drift along the side of the pinnacle to the sheltered area for a safety stop surrounded by bannerfish.
Marine Life Encounters 🦈
If you like big fish, this is your place. The density of biomass here is staggering.
The stars of the show. You can often see 10-20 individuals patrolling the current.
Massive, aggressive hunters that dart into the schools of fusiliers.
Huge tornados of Big Eye Trevally that block out the sun.
Often seen hunting alongside the divers or passing overhead.

Frequently Asked Questions
It can be if protocols aren't followed. The currents are strong and downward. However, with an experienced guide and proper procedures (negative entry), it is a safe and thrilling dive.
If you drift past the rock on entry, we abort the dive, surface safely, and the boat picks us up to try again. We never fight the current in the blue.
It is rare, but occasional Great Hammerhead sightings happen in the deep water during the colder months.
