Snorkeling and Diving with Manta Rays at Manta Point – Komodo

Why It's Called Manta Point

As the name suggests, Manta Point is renowned for frequent sightings of manta rays (Mobula alfredi) gliding through the currents while feeding. This iconic dive and snorkel site in Komodo National Park offers one of the best chances to encounter these gentle giants in their natural habitat.

Meet the Graceful Manta Rays

Manta rays at this site can grow up to 4 meters wide. Known for their elegance and playfulness, they are harmless to humans and often swim peacefully nearby. These filter feeders gracefully move through the water as they consume clouds of plankton near the surface.

Rich Marine Biodiversity Beyond Mantas

In addition to mantas, Manta Point Komodo boasts healthy marine biodiversity. Reefs stretch from shallow depths of 2 meters down to 9 meters. While diving or snorkeling, you may encounter turtles, reef sharks, eagle rays, giant trevallies, cuttlefish, colorful sponges, and even massive clams.

How to Visit Manta Point

Most tours stop at Manta Point after visiting the famous Komodo or Rinca Islands. You can choose to snorkel, join a daily dive trip, or simply swim if conditions allow. With some luck, you may find yourself surrounded by manta rays in the open water — a magical moment you'll never forget.

Note on Wildlife Sightings

While manta ray encounters are common, they cannot be guaranteed. Visibility and animal presence depend on weather conditions and natural ocean currents. We always prioritize safe and respectful wildlife interactions.

MANTA POINT KOMODO

As the name implies, Manta Point is where manta rays (Alfredi Mobula) are often spotted while feeding, thus becoming a popular location to meet these gentle marine giants.
Giant, playful creatures that can grow up to 4 meters wide, Manta Rays are relatively harmless and often welcome humans’ proximity. They swim elegantly around Manta Point and feed on tiny plankton.
Aside from the mantas, the marine biodiversity at Manta Point is also relatively healthy, with reefs lying from only 2 meters to 9 meters in depth. Turtles, sharks, eagle rays, giant trevallies, huge clams, various kinds of sponges, and cuttlefish are several things that you may see during your snorkel or dive here.

Following your trip to Komodo or Rinca Islands, the boat will make a stop at Manta Point, at which you could opt to snorkel, dive (on our daily dive trip), or, if you are lucky, swim with the mantas.

Please note that seeing the Manta Rays cannot be guaranteed and is subject to weather and nature conditions.
