Common questions about becoming a dive professional
A PADI Divemaster is the first professional-level certification. It allows you to guide certified divers independently, assist instructors with courses, conduct some PADI programs, and work in dive centers worldwide. It's the gateway to becoming a PADI Instructor.
Komodo offers world-class biodiversity, challenging currents that build real skills, less crowded sites, and professional training at the only PADI 5★ IDC center in Labuan Bajo — now also holder of the PADI Platinum Professional Development Excellence Award 2026. You train with two resident Course Directors, not visiting trainers.
Moderate to high fitness is required. You'll complete a 400m swim and 15-minute float, carry dive equipment regularly, dive multiple times daily, and perform rescue exercises. Good health and stamina are important for the 4–6 week intensive program.
Yes. Professional divers need a complete scuba set (BCD, regulator, computer), mask, fins, snorkel, wetsuit, compass, knife, whistle, and SMB. We offer equipment packages if needed — owning your own gear is an investment in your career.
Yes — PADI Divemaster certification is globally recognised. You can work in dive centers worldwide, guide on liveaboards, assist with courses, and lead dive trips. Many Dragon Dive graduates find work immediately, and we often have opportunities for exceptional candidates on-site.
During your DMT, you can join any scheduled dives: daily fun dives at Komodo sites, guided dives with real customers, course assistance dives, and night dives when available. Most DMTs complete 100+ dives during their training.
Absolutely — many DMTs continue directly to our Instructor Development Course. Requirements: Divemaster certification, 100 logged dives, and EFR Instructor rating (can be done during IDC). We run regular IDC sessions throughout the year, and special combo rates are available for the DMT → IDC pathway.
DMT candidates receive 50% off our on-site dorm accommodation. Private rooms are available at standard rates. The center is walking distance from the dive boats, with kitchen access and WiFi included.
